iVillage — Spiderman actress Kirsten Dunst says she wants to remove the social stigma associated with depression — an illness she herself has battled.

“People are embarrassed to talk about it,” the 29-year-old told Flare magazine in a recent interview. “I would never put anyone down that was in that kind of space.”

In 2008, Dunst sought treatment for depression at the Cirque Lodge Rehab Center in Sundance Utah, and says she came to understand that dealing with depression is nothing to be ashamed of.

“I think that most human beings go through some sort of depression in their life, and if they don’t I think that’s weird.”

Thank you for this post. Kirsten has bravely stepped through the darkness of depression in the spotlight. I have always loved her acting, I now love her even more for her courage and bravery and vulnerability. Bravo Kirsten. Hugs & Love Lee xox
