Living with a mental illness isn’t easy, and the road to recovery can be long and complicated. But there is always hope. I would like to share with you a personal story about how I knew I was making progress in my recovery.
My positive symptoms of schizophrenia—things like hearing voices, being paranoid, delusional thinking, and illusions—were pretty much under control with medication. But my negative symptoms took my life over and for five long years I was basically on the couch doing nothing. I was depressed, suicidal, and lacking self-esteem and confidence.
