New findings suggest that for patients with bipolar disorder, early treatment at a specialized mood disorder clinic may significantly reduce the chances of patients being readmitted to a psychiatric hospital.
Lars Vedel Kessing and colleagues from Copenhagen University Hospital in Denmark said that these treatments, compared to standard treatments, reduced the risk of readmission by 40% over a two and a half year period.

Nearly half of people with co-existing depression and borderline personality disorder may also have bipolar disorder, according to a recent study.
The study included 5635 adults experiencing a major depressive episode. Participants were over the age of 18 and from 18 different countries across Europe, North Africa, and Asia.
Ebselen potential lithium replacement to treat bipolar

A new study on mice shows that the experimental drug ebselen may be able to treat bipolar disorder without the added side effects that come with lithium medications.
Researchers gave mice small doses of amphetamines in order to make them manic. They then gave them doses of ebselen and found that the mice were calmed again by the drug.
